Margam TMD was an EWS depot and was one of the main depots in Wales since the closure of Canton TMD in Cardiff. The depot has playd host to numerous class 60's in traffic along with 66's, mainly for the enterprise, coal and steel industries abundant in Wales. EWS 37/4's saw passenger work in Wales, so the 37's could also be found stabled on shed.

Stored traction, mainly class 37's on site after the 2004 RHTT season, arrived after Canton's closure, and while again, examples saw use having been stored, they suffered differing fates. Class 47 and 56 were also stored at the site and in it's final years it hosted several stored shunters and even class 60's.

Today the depot itself has been demolished however the nearby Margam Knuckle Yard works on locomotive maintainence, and many of the depots former staff are now based at the yard.
