A two week break based in Las Vegas also allowed some enjoyment of the railroads! Locations being Las Vegas itself, which features the bulk of Union Pacific work, down the line into California and Yermo then into Barstow California. BNSF terrority on all counts, though UP still with track rights and a presence. A couple of photos also from Flagstaff, Arizona, again solid BNSF railroad. A huge selection of locomotives, with Barstow not disappointing. While fleets photographed are mainly BNSF orange (all three) variations; and Union Pacific yellow, several extras appeared. A SantaFe 'Warbonnet' along with two BNSF 'Warbonnet' schemes working hard for BNSF. CSX locomotives again in two guises, Norfolk Southern and KCS - Kansas City Southern again all made appearances though unlike last year the KCS units were a little camera shy but got never the less! Something entirely different was CEFX 1026, a hire in and normally found in Canada so somewhat lost in Arizona. Las Vegas itself a touch quieter railroad wise on this visit but still plenty to enjoy.

Seeing double? Eagle eyed observations can see BNSF's 4863 in the gallery along with KCS (Kansas City Southern)'s 4863! Different railroads hence number duplication. Due to the sheer volume of locomotives in the USA 'locomotive road numbers' may well duplicate across railroads. The KCS unit was on hire to UP. It would be interesting if the same KCS unit went on hire with BNSF or indeed vice versa. My guess is both units would be unable to operate together for train recording purposes. Not many places, never mind the chance! To see duplicate numbers! Luck indeed...

Seen again? - Union Pacific's 7771 was seen only last year in 2018 in UP's Arden Yard in Las Vegas. This joins 4110 and 7076 all UP engines I have seen twice on separate visits.

2020? Yes. This time an extra day will be had and a few more hours at that will be spent in Barstow to include the depots and surrounding tracks. Yermo yard will be visited as well as the track just outside the town and a couple of hours each morning will be enjoyed as well a stones throw from the hotel in Las Vegas! 2019 brought a total of 156 locomotives on camera and with the above a goal of 300 for 2020 has been set. As with Sin City - the sky is the limit...
