In a city to take a gamble in, why not. Given a 14 day holiday in March in Las Vegas, with only one slightly dull day forecast, well dull morning anyway, in 24C despite this, a few hours were used one morning, before enjoying Vegas's other benefits, to see how Americans do Railfreight. Which is usually three-five locos on the front, or two on the front and one-two on the rear.
Trains featured were hauling coal and double stack containers. Most trains were around 120-140 wagons in length, quite something to see, and indeed to hear these things.
The locomotives were hauled Union Pacific locomotives, though two Norfolk Virgina locomotives were also caught in transit. The types of locomotive featured see AC4400's, these being most common leading trains, as was an SD70, SD90's were also proving to be common while a single SD45 - One of the Norfolk Virginia Locomotives along with another AC4400, made an appearance. There are to livery variations of the Union Pacific livery and both of these feature as well.
Some were also photographed from the Stratosphere, cheating but made for some unusual photos! That's all from Las Vegas...until next year....
