Hello and welcome to my photography site which looks at the scene of British Railways from 1997 right up to the present day, along with the occasional dabble from railways abroad.
The main subjects on my site look at the ever changing face of rail freight and passenger operations on the UK railway network with a focus on the large variety of locomotives in operation. Featuring everything from traction built in 1960 right up until the present day in a variety of heritage and modern guises with many featured still working hard today, some in preservation and sadly some no longer with us.
From an enthusiast point of view I've covered the most popular locomotives and liveries they've carried throughout the years to portray a picture of why the railways of today can be just as interesting as railways of past eras and steam days, and continue to enjoy the UK scene going forward.
Some of my collections feature UK locomotives that have gone abroad or returned home and in some cases are photographed in locations such as France or Spain. While France has seen some interest, and even a visit to Switzerland and Belgium do feature, these I do not hold a fondness of along side UK traction. However a more common theme is yearly visits to the West Coast of the USA and that is the American Railroad.
Time in Las Vegas, Nevada, Flagstaff Arizona, Yermo and Barstow California have seen me grow fond of US locomotives in terms of sounds, size, power and personality. Learning what is heritage and what is new, following the 'Big Eight' railroads Union Pacific, BNSF, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Kansas City Southern, Canadian Pacific, Canada National and Ferromex (Mexico) have all made appearances in the west as 'foreign power'. To finally finding those 'fallen flag' previous company liveried locomotives and even heritage engines on the network is special. Three to twelve locomotives thundering past on trains from one to two miles long is certainly very different from the UK scene, especially in size.
Its a personal pleasure to enjoy not one but two railway networks, UK and US, and I share that with you.
